Description
Vineyard in Contrada Monte Serra, on the southeast slope of Etna, in the municipality of Viagrande (CT). Altitude 450-500 meters above sea level. Pure Nerello Mascalese. The vineyard, with a southeast exposure, is planted on sandy, volcanic soil rich in "ripiddu" (small pumice stones) and minerals, with a sub-acidic reaction. The vines, of varying ages, some centuries old, are trained as bush vines, with a planting density of approximately 8,000 vines per hectare and a yield of approximately 6,500 kg/ha. The climate is less extreme, high in the hills, humid with good rainfall in the colder seasons and strong winds from the sea.
