Description
Fiano, or Vitis Apicia, is a grape variety likely dating back to Greek times. It established itself on the Italian peninsula under the Romans, eventually establishing itself in Irpinia, hence the name Fiano di Avellino, which in a certain sense delimits the DOCG production area. This DOCG is partly included in the Partenio Regional Park, consisting of the Serino Plain and a broad hilly area ranging in altitude from 300 to 600 meters, bordered to the west by the Partenio mountain range and to the east by the Terminio-Tuoro range. The soils are characterized by a mixture of clay and sand. This richness in clay is a very positive factor for viticulture, counteracting periods of drought and promoting more even ripening. Harvest takes place between late September and early October. Di Prisco's Fiano is produced in the Lapio vineyards, at approximately 600 meters above sea level, with a southeast exposure that ensures excellent ripening of the Fiano. A demanding vine during the pruning phase, it is grown using the Guyot system with a yield per hectare of around 70 quintals.
